How often should an office be cleaned? A daily, weekly and monthly plan

To plan office cleaning properly, split tasks by frequency. A sample plan and what to look for in a contract.

How often should an office be cleaned? A daily, weekly and monthly plan

Office cleaning problems often start with “we clean, but it's still dirty.” The usual reason is the lack of a plan: everything is done at the same frequency, and some tasks are forgotten entirely.

Daily tasks

  • Emptying bins
  • Cleaning restrooms and checking supplies
  • Wiping the kitchen and coffee area
  • Wiping desks and high-touch surfaces
  • Vacuuming floors

Weekly tasks

  • Wet mopping floors
  • Wiping glass partitions and doors
  • Cleaning the fridge and microwave
  • Dusting shelves and window sills

Monthly and periodic tasks

Window washing, cleaning armchairs and sofas, ventilation grilles, high shelves and the tops of lights. These jobs aren't visible every day, but they have a big effect on how the office looks overall.

What to look for in a contract

The task list and frequencies should be in writing. The contract should also state whether the team is permanent, who inspects quality and when, working hours and the reporting format. This is exactly the structure we use for our office clients: site analysis, custom plan, permanent team and quality report.
