The difference between disinfection and ordinary cleaning

Does a clean-looking surface mean a safe one? The right disinfection sequence and the surfaces most often missed.

The difference between disinfection and ordinary cleaning

Cleaning removes dirt; disinfection kills microorganisms. These are different goals and one does not replace the other. A shiny desk can still carry bacteria, and a disinfected but dirty surface is not fully protected.

The right order: clean first, then disinfect

Dirt and grease stop the disinfectant from reaching the surface. So the surface is washed first and then the disinfectant is applied. The product needs to stay on the surface for a set time to work — wiping it off immediately reduces the effect.

The surfaces most often missed

  • Door handles and light switches
  • Lift buttons and stair handrails
  • Keyboards, mice and phones
  • Fridge and kettle handles in the kitchen
  • Taps and toilet flush buttons

When do you need professional disinfection?

During flu season, after an employee falls ill, in high-risk facilities such as clinics, kindergartens and restaurants, and before reopening premises that have been closed for a long time. In these cases certified products, the right concentration and systematic treatment of all risk zones matter.

We always start disinfection by identifying risk zones and use only certified products.
